The Gathering of the Eagles was formed with the belief that the war memorials are sacred ground; as such, we will not allow them to be desecrated, used as props for political statements, or treated with anything less than the solemn and heartfelt respect they–and the heroes they honor–deserve.

A call went out across the country for help to protect these memorials from the threat of desecration from an anti-war demonstration that was to be held at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The call was answered by many veterans ranging from WWII to the Iraq War. Many non-veterans attended this event to show their support and help protect the memorials that honor all of our war dead.

The CVMA was represented by members from NH, RI, TN, OH, TX and CO.

The Wall was secured by the NPS, DC police and the FBI. All visitors had to
pass through a metal detector before entering the grounds of the Memorial.
There was a three hour wait to gain entry to pay respects to the heroes of the Vietnam War.
